IUD/Implant Placement

An intrauterine device or IUD is a small plastic device that is placed within the uterus to provide birth control. Currently, there are 4 types of hormone producing IUD’s: the Mirena, Liletta, Kyleena, and Skyla. All of these provide a hormone called progestin to prevent pregnancy. Another type of IUD called the ParaGard which doesn’t use hormones, is coated with a small casing of copper which acts as a natural deterrent to sperm.

Additionally, the Nexplanon contraceptive implant is another type of birth control that involves insertion of a very small rod into the upper arm. The procedure is simple as the rod lies just beneath the skin. It also uses progestin. All of these contraceptive methods are offered and performed at Rexburg Medical Clinic.
