Are You a Tough Guy?
Did you know that one of the largest disparities between men and women is the mortality rate? The average life expectancy for an American woman is 81.2 years compared to the average man living to about 76.4 years. That is nearly a five-year difference! From the time men are born to the time they die, men have a greater chance of dying before women. (Link here).
Along with having a higher rate of injuries than women, men are more likely to avoid taking preventative measures such as routine checkups or even going to the doctor when sick or injured. This has had a detrimental effect on men over time leading them to greater problems in the long run.
As part of National Men’s Health Month, we encourage men to take some preventative health measures to ensure a healthy life. “Healthy habits are an ‘automatic’ defense against most illnesses and can provide us a long, healthy – and thus happy – life” (Preventative Health Care Helps Everyone).
