Men’s Health Month

Are You a Tough Guy?

Did you know that one of the largest disparities between men and women is the mortality rate? The average life expectancy for an American woman is 81.2 years compared to the average man living to about 76.4 years. That is nearly a five-year difference! From the time men are born to the time they die, men have a greater chance of dying before women. (Link here).

Along with having a higher rate of injuries than women, men are more likely to avoid taking preventative measures such as routine checkups or even going to the doctor when sick or injured.  This has had a detrimental effect on men over time leading them to greater problems in the long run.

As part of National Men’s Health Month, we encourage men to take some preventative health measures to ensure a healthy life. “Healthy habits are an ‘automatic’ defense against most illnesses and can provide us a long, healthy – and thus happy – life” (Preventative Health Care Helps Everyone).

  • Regular doctor visits
  • Flu shots
  • Eating healthy
  • Abstaining from harmful substances
  • Exercise
  • Mental health
  • Maintaining Healthy Relationships
  • Avoiding dangerous situations
  • Financial security

Children Wellness Visits

Did you know that almost all insurances, including Medicaid, cover the cost of a wellness visit annually? This includes you and your children. Preventive care saves lives and thousands of wellness hours and dollars. Children rely on you to take care of them. Many of them have not been seen for over 12 months.

Even though you and/or your child may be healthy, periodic wellness checkups are important and can help by addressing minor health issues before they become serious. The checkup and tests run at an annual physical exam allow us to catalog changes from year to year, and this assists in spotting any trends that could potentially affect your or your dependents health. A visit with your healthcare provider is also a great opportunity to ask them any questions that you may have regarding your or your child’s health.

Please call 208-356-5401 and schedule a wellness visit for you and your child. We look forward to serving you.
